Iftar at a Restaurant: What to Order

Break the fast gently, then eat properly. A sequence that works for groups.

· 4 min read

First ten minutes

Water, dates and a cold drink come first. Ask for salad and a light starter to be on the table at the azan so nobody waits.

Order the main dishes before iftar time so they arrive just after you have broken the fast, not forty minutes later when the kitchen is slammed.

Mains that suit a fasting stomach

Chicken handi, chicken biryani and malai boti are gentle. Keep the heaviest karahi for a night when you are not fasting, or share one across a big table.
